Carbs and alcohol don’t make people fat…..eating too many calories for the amount of activity/exercise you do is what causes weight gain. Americans (relative to other countries) often exercise less, eat bigger portion sizes, and stress out about diet too much imo

Strongly disagree. Tell that to the many elite East African runners that do 9-min mile pace and other “shuffle jogs”. No such thing as “junk miles”. If one is out there stimulating blood flow, burning calories and covering miles…it is work and volume that should be accounted for

I’m also strongly against the“death before DNF” attitude/motto some people have created in marathons and ultra marathon culture. I’ve DNFed (did not finish) in track 10kms, road marathons (including Boston) and several ultras. I run for health reasons…its ok to quit sometimes!

Ran 17 miles today on the #Treadmill (aka "The Dreadmill") and that is a privilege. "1st world 'problems'" is when people complain about running on a treadmill. I had the time and body to train in a peaceful environment...that is a luxury and something to always be thankful for

Very happy to be able to pull off a 2nd place finish today at the pikespeakmarathon !@kilianj was pretty far ahead of me (congrats on the win and sub 3:28!). As part of the very competitive #goldentrailseries we had… instagram.com/p/B1mymdgJhQJ/…

Yesterday: I spent 9.5 hours at the hospital. 3 catheters inserted (one artery, two veins) Couple of those got threaded through my heart. IV drip, lots of blood pulls, zapped with radiation and poked and proded like a Guiana pig all day! Another big setback financially and I may

Had a pretty rough weekend. It turned out that the “Pneumonia” I had been diagnosed with 4.5 weeks ago was actually a Pulmonary Embolism. Finally found out this weekend when I decided to go the ER for treatment bc of pain. Ended up overnighting in the hospital. More on my Insta

It was a wild #TDS this year! We had 3” of snow on some of the mountain passes during the race and the most extreme mud that I’ve raced through!. Also cold rain, wind and fog 🌧️❄️. Honored to have finished in 12th place and a little over 22 hours for the 97-mile course and nearly

Got come comments on how I should "lose weight" because I am"too thick" to be a good distance runner. Um, I was basically born with a certain muscle mass & my pelvis is simply not shrinking down to a 28-30" waist. I'd be unhealthy if I tried to drop 10 lbs. Run & Eat for health!

Tough day at the #BostonMarathon for me. Had to drop around mile 18...felt very hypothermic. Probably should have kept the jacket on. Huge Congrats to all the finishers in such conditions! Really pleased hard workers and smart runners @des_linden and Yuki Kawauchi won!

Thankful & appreciative of all the kind words of encouragement as I recover from my Pulmonary Embolism 🙏🏼.However, there have been some cruel & hateful comments I’ve been getting (mainly from anti-vaxxers).Being skeptical is fine, but Shame on you for attacking me while I’m down!

I get a scary amount of satisfaction from flagging people on @Strava for "wrong activity type." If you (intentionally or accidentally) uploaded your "bike ride" up as a "run" I will find you and your 3-min mile splits!

“Just stick to running”-tweeted at me a lot. Thing is I’m a person who sees all things as being very interconnected. Value based systems (be it about running/diet/politics) all overlap in my mind. So I vote for human rights, better health care for all, and for the environment
