Iran is burning mazut, one of the dirtiest fuels, to generate electricity.
This produces massive volumes of toxic air pollution, which poisons millions of people in Iran, violating their human rights, including the right to a healthy environment.
Iran must stop burning mazut!

UN Special Rapporteur on the human right to a clean, healthy & sustainable environment / Relatora Especial 🇺🇳 del DH al ambiente limpio, sano y sostenible
- A little bit of joyful emotion at the very staid Human Rights Council, as the UN for the first time recognizes the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment! (Mask was only off for a moment!)
- Woke up this morning thinking "The world’s future is a little bit brighter today." Why? Because the UN General Assembly, in an historical development, recognized that everyone, everywhere, has a human right to live in a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.
- ¡La ONU ha reconocido el derecho humano a un ambiente limpio, sano y sostenible! ¡¡Día histórico para los derechos humanos y el ambiente!! 43 a favor de la resolución 4 abstenciones ninguna en contra.
- Replying to @mamadporii @UN and 7 othersThere is no doubt that Iran is systematically violating the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. In my report to the Human Rights Council last year about "sacrifice zones," I highlighted air pollution in Ahvaz.
- COP26 ignored human rights despite the UN Human Rights Council resolution recognizing the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. An absolute travesty that will fuel anger, protests + litigation. A stark failure to address the suffering of climate crisis victims.
- I just received an email from the European Court of Human Rights regarding the Portuguese youths' climate change case alleging human rights violations by 33 European nations. The case has been sent to the Grand Chamber. Europe's highest human rights court will now decide the case
- Today the UN Human Rights Council changed my title to Special Rapporteur on the human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment Why does it matter? For humanity, it's another sign that this human right is globally recognized as fundamental. For me, a dream come true!
- Exciting news! On Friday, the Constitutional (Supreme) Court of Ecuador, the country’s most powerful court, recognized, for the first time, the right of Indigenous communities to have the final decision on oil, mining and other extractive projects affect their lands.
- Chile may become the first country in the world to enshrine the right to a healthy environment in its Constitution and the right to clean air: Art. 49 Todas las personas tienen el derecho al aire limpio durante todo el ciclo de vida, en la forma que determine la ley. Bravo Chile!
- adopted 161 votes in favor, zero against, 8 abstentions VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Vote now! 40 in favour 4 abstentions none against. The UN has recognized the human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment! Historic day for human rights and the environment!!!
- Perhaps the time has come, as the global climate and human rights crisis worsens, to stop arresting people calling for action to solve the problem. Start arresting people who continue to blindly, negligently exacerbate the crisis. And end fossil fuel subsidies already!!Police more violent against peaceful #StopFossilFuelSubsidies protestors. Day 8: Support from aside is now pushed, music instruments taken away. Water cannons used more (powerful). Yet, as 🇳🇱 subsidies exceed 40 bln, protestors sing ‘We’ll be back’. @SREnvironment please 👁️👁️
