It takes just as much effort to make a person feel small as it does to dignify them: surprisingly little. #speaklove

10 yrs ago I sat in a room with a few pastors, one of whom was in the midst of a meteoric rise in fame. I noticed him frequently making sexist, inappropriate jokes, while the other pastors laughed. They brushed it off as harmless, and continued to commend him to me & others. (1/)

And ENOUGH making excuses for a leader's ghastly immorality because of policy. Yesterday people died. Churches have died. People's faiths have died. We must have the moral fortitude to name what is clearly in front of us, because anything less is a dereliction of calling.

The priceless face of @drmoore when @jenniferwilkin says, “If only we had devoted as much attention as we have to whether a woman could preach, to how qualified the men are that are preaching.” #sbc2019 God bless her!

There are some Christian leaders that I look at and think, "Are they following the same Jesus I am?" But then I read stories about ancient Christian martyrs, and I wonder, "Am I following the same Jesus as THEM?"

No one ever thinks they’re a Pharisee. They just think they’re being more faithful.

Republican v Democrat is a man made division. Pro-life v pro-woman is a man made division Anti-racism v pro-police is a man made division. Complementarian v Egalitarian is a man made division. Just a reminder that these are not, in fact, the boundary lines of the Kingdom of God.

My grandmother passed away tonight at the age of 95. One remarkable thing about her is that when she was in her 70’s, she decided to go to seminary and get her Master of Divinity. The last thing I said to her was that I was picking up her baton and I would carry it forward.

Conservatism believes the ideal is behind us. Progressivism believes it is ahead. The radical claim of Christianity is that both are right & also wholly wrong, because our hope is neither nostalgia nor a secular utopia. The Garden is gone, but the Kingdom of God is coming.

ENOUGH. You pastors who keep making excuses for your friends because of "grace." ENOUGH. You pastors making excuses for leaders with character failings because they are "anointed." ENOUGH. You pastors looking the other way because that leader's theology is "correct." (6/)

“I told you so” was not the posture of the Prodigal’s father. This is so important to understand.

C.S. Lewis once wrote about a phenomenon he called the "Inner Ring." It's a group we long to be accepted into, but once inside it, we don't find belonging. We just find another ring. I'm telling you: the sooner you can *really* grasp this, the freer you will be.

Every time I pray for President Zelensky, I also pray for his wife and children. Courage is so costly.

From time to time my kids ask me why we talk about Jesus all the time, and this is what I almost always say: “Jesus is the only thing I can give you that can never be taken away.”
