Dorothy Bain, QC, and Ruth Charteris, QC, today took the oaths of office as Lord Advocate and Solicitor General for Scotland respectively at ceremonies held in Parliament House, Edinburgh before a bench of three judges chaired by the Lord President, Lord Carloway.

#Glasgow High Court trials begin on Tuesday 13 October in the new cinema-based Remote Jury Centre at Braehead, Renfrewshire. The 11 jury rooms can accommodate 15 physically distanced jurors, who will connect with the courtroom through state-of-the-art, secure technology.

As a mark of respect, the Lord President has requested flags on Edinburgh Court buildings be flown at half-mast during the funeral of Barry Martin, the firefighter who died while tackling a fire last month. The funeral will take place at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh on Friday

SCTS is saddened to hear about the untimely passing of Ellen Cassidy, who was a Clerk of Court at Glasgow Sheriff Court. Our thoughts are with all her family and friends as well as her colleagues at the Sheriff Court, at this extremely difficult time.
