Brighton spends £3m a year on data consultancy to help their recruitment team to get the right players. A single wrong transfer at PL level can cost £50m in fees/wages. Yet a lot of clubs would choke at the idea of spending 3% of that on data services.

At 16 Pedri was starting for Las Palmas By 17 he was signed by Barcelona By 18 he was a full international and one of the best players in the world. Just goes to show you should always give up if you aren't brilliant straight away.

The idea of Koeman being replaced by Martinez, who would then face Ancelotti in El Classico seems to confirm Everton games are not watched in Spain.

Some of Brighton's "how did they find him" players. Always there in the data. What they do is back their methodology and ensure the player is given time to develop. Was over a year from signing until debut for thee of these four.

Pickford - yet another England tournament where the narrative has been he is the weak link and the reality is he has been very good.

Remember when Villa signed Idrissa Gana Gueye, Jordan Veretout, Jordan Amavi, Jordan Ayew and Adama Traore in one summer, then finished 20th? The scouting worked, £130m of bids for that group in last 12 months says so. The rest of the process let them down.

Livramento and Olise could have been a right-sided solution for a decade for a combined £14m.

Moyes: Almost single handedly rebuilds Everton averaging 60 points with no money. Generally mocked as useless by public. Koeman and Martinez: Waste millions making Everton far worse and sacked. Fighting it out for Barcelona job.

The most annoying thing about Brighton is they are really happy to tell people how they do things in the knowledge that nobody has the patience to do a project that will take 5 years to see through.

Barnsley isn't a sudden case of a manager making a huge difference, it is a project that goes back to the 2017/18 takeover where they committed to a style and have recruited coaches and managers to fit. Available to all clubs with a long term view.

Youssouf Ndayishimiye and why data/video for African football matters. The Burundian league had a full season of data on Wyscout. The standout player was a midfielder. He was signed by a Turkish club for $40k, a year later by another for $2m, and now $20m to Nice.

Shocking abuse of the players by stupid idiots. But spare me the "social media" angle, our press is by far the worst offender and by far the most responsible for generating hatred in the first place.

Can't think of a fanbase who would more appreciate high tempo, high press football than Everton's but we never ever try and get someone in to coach it. Always ordering omelettes in a curry house.

Brighton lost their highly rated sporting director and head coach, plus several key scouts....disaster? No, they have involved ownership, an established football identity, and had internal staff ready to step up. De Zerbi slotted in perfectly because they are aligned.
