- If single people don’t find a home within your church - as you worship a single rabbi born of a virgin and read letters from another single itinerant preacher - there’s a problem.
- As a Protestant let me be very clear, anti-Catholic bigotry is wrong. It always has been and it always will be.
- Hearing reports that a revival has broken out at Hughes Auditorium on the campus of Asbury University. Going on for over six hours already. For those of you who aren’t familiar, a famous revival broke out here for two weeks in 1970. It’s repercussions are still being felt.
- The Nicene Creed outlines the bare minimum of what can rightly be called basic Christianity.
- As a seminary professor I have a request for pastors: please teach your people the basics of the Christian faith. It would make our task so much easier. Trinity. Incarnation. Atonement. Resurrection. Scripture. Grace. Faith. Justification. Sanctification. Formation takes years.
- So Beth Moore carries out a lay ministry in her local church, dressed as a lay person, acting as a lay person, and because some people have never seen a cassock before they think she’s now a priest or even a bishop? Is that the story? #sad
- I mentioned the Jesus Seminar to a group of young people and they had no idea what I was talking about. Thankful.
- I’m a Christian in the Wesleyan tradition because of its outrageous optimism. Wesleyans actually believe that an encounter with God, who you can know personally, will change you, dramatically, and make you whole in this life, filling you with love. Here. Now. #Wesleyan #salvation
- The Asbury Revival is ongoing. There’s really no “hot take” at this point. We don’t need any commentary. What we need is prayer. Pray for those involved. Pray that authentic revival (i.e., renewal) will spread. Anything else is just unnecessary.
- The Methodist Realignment has begun. Prayers and love for those joining the GMC, staying in the UMC, joining another Wesleyan expression, or going home to Anglicanism. Wherever you land, take the Wesleyan message of perfect love with you.
- Baptizing infants is the church’s most profound way of proclaiming that salvation is the gift of God. It’s not something that we can ever attain on our own.
- If you can’t say the Creeds without crossing your fingers, you’re not called to the ministry.
- Unlike the rest of the commentators, it appears, I called the celebrant and asked him about this. It’s called a “second line,” a New Orleans tradition that is used at send offs, for marriages, funerals, and saying goodbye. Not my style. But context is invaluable. My Episcopalian friend who has been investigating Catholicism for a year but is terrified of her family’s reaction sent me this video tonight. She said, “I’ve had enough” and asked me how to sign up for OCIA to officially convert to Catholicism! 😂🙌
