    Under the approved resolution, Minneapolis Public Schools will cease further negotiations with the police department and Superintendent Ed Graff must come up with a new plan for school safety by the board's August 18 board meeting.

    Also meant to note: Minneapolis Public Schools was paying the police department $1.1 million per year for services. Students and school board members say that money could be better spent on mental health services.

    The district has long faced criticism over the use of SROs, and sought to transform the role into a mentor. In 2018-2019, a Minneapolis schools survey gave mostly positive marks to SROs, but data also showed school cops had more interactions with black students than their peers.
