Maybe it’s about time we worried a bit less about slavery in the 18th Century, and a bit more about child slavery today in Congo’s lithium mines, to provide batteries for our clean, green EVs.

- A woman born in Britain decides to celebrate her African heritage by adopting an African name, African hair & African dress. She then throws a wobbly when someone assumes she’s African. Do I sense an agenda here?
- Meghan has pale skin. I don’t think I should have noticed that she is mixed-race if she & Harry didn’t keep banging on about it. As a mixed-race couple, my wife & I very rarely encounter racism. Perhaps because we’re not constantly looking for it.
- The media frenzy over Dominic Raab’s comments on “taking the knee” is farcical. BBC calling it “highly embarrassing & at the worst possible time”. It was perfectly reasonable, & should not have caused offence to anyone. Most fair & decent people in the country would agree.
- Starmer has money for Mauritius. Money for Gerry Adams. Money for illegal immigrants. But not for the Winter Fuel Allowance. telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/01/1…
- Genuinely shocked (though I suppose I shouldn’t be) to see Katie Hopkins dumped by Twitter. You don’t have to agree with her to defend her right to free speech. And apparently any amount of offensive bile is just fine so long as it comes from the left.
- I think when the Cummings story gets to be written, the thing we’ll remember most is Boris’ coolness under fire. He’s the epitome of Kipling: “If you can keep your head when all around are losing theirs and blaming it on you”. He did. Well done that man.
- Can we please stop referring to new-variant Covid as “originating in the UK”. It was FIRST IDENTIFIED in the UK, which is an entirely different thing.
- Robert Tombs: “No leader for 300 years has done more to undermine the UK” than Starmer.
- I'm not sure whether Putin tried to influence the US Presidential race. But I'm damned sure that Obama tried to influence the UK Referendum.
- Can someone please explain to me why we have to give away our fishing rights in order to be allowed to assist the EU with its defence plans?
- A French fisherman on the BBC Today programme complains that the Jersey rules would devastate 70% of the French fleet. A bit like the damage the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy did to the UK fishing fleet.
- Miliband must go, before he does any more damage.
- BBC News at Ten: “A police officer knocked herself off her horse”. Preposterous.
