- The regiment is deeply saddened at the loss of 2Lt Max George who was killed during a training exercise on Salisbury Plain on Tuesday 21st June. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and the 5th Battalion The Rifles. Max’s eulogy can be found on SWIFT.
- Congratulations to Craig Woods who after 90 days at sea and 7,506 nautical miles, has officially become the first triple amputee in history to sail solo, non-stop, and unsupported across the Pacific Ocean from Mexico to Japan! The Regiment is incredibly proud. Swift And Bold!
- It’s with much sadness and a heavy heart that we would like to advise that Colour Serjeant Matthew Pascoe sadly passed away on Tuesday 25 May 2021. Matt (y) was a true and charismatic Rifleman and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
00:00- The funeral of Captain (Retd) Bryn Parry CBE is being held at Salisbury Cathedral on Wednesday 26th April at 3pm. He was a true Rifleman and the founder of Help For Heroes. Swift and Bold.
- Because of our heritage, Riflemen are known for their shooting abilities, and as a regiment we happen to have some of the best shots in the British Army. RIFLES snipers fulfil a vital and enduring role on the battlefield. Swift and Bold!
00:00 - In the lead up to Armistice Day, B Coy 2 RIFLES were tasked with assisting in the burial service of Rfn Adams of The Rifle Brigade, one of our antecedent regiments, which fought in World War One. With His distant relatives and our Riflemen bade farewell. @CO_2RIFLES
- Training with the Finnish Army has been a privilege for 5 RIFLES. A Rifleman quoted “This exercise has been immensely fun and challenging. We have also been hosted particularly well too. We are definitely training with friends out here.”
- On this day in 1944, D-Day took place and saw one of our antecedent regiments, the 2nd Battalion Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, carry out the very first action that took place several hours ahead of the main landings, at 0015 hours.
- We know that our Riflemen are not immune to the cost-of-living crisis sweeping the county. In order to help them, we are offering Tesco vouchers to those within our regiment who are most at need; hoping to free up funds for other essentials. Details and applications are on SWIFT.
- Throwback Thursday. In this 1980’s video one of our antecedent regiments, The Royal Green Jackets, can be seen live firing with the Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) and the GPMG. An egg banjo for anyone who can recognise which ranges they are on. #ThrowbackThursday
00:00 - Did you know that Rifle Regiments march at 140 paces to the minute in comparison to the rest of the Army that march at 120 paces? We are swift in thought and bold in action, and that includes charging a magazine! Do you know why we march at a faster pace?
