"Please...pronounuce it the Ukrainian way... This is the Ukrainian language, Ukrainian culture" - @bbclysedoucet on #r4today this morning giving the best explanation as to why BBC pronounces the Ukrainian capital Kyiv (KEE-yiv), not the Russian Kiev (kee-ev).

Exactly 9 months ago, just after 5am UK time on the 12 January, the first BBC TV report ran about the death of a man in central China from a peculiar new disease. Officials insisted it was all under control and would be nothing like the 2008 SARS outbreak which killed 770 people.

I spent 45 minutes doing CPR on a neighbour this morning. Sadly, they didn't make it. And this tweet isn't about me or the neighbour - it's my regular encouragement to please, if it's not something you've done before, considering learning CPR 🧵 @GoodSamApp @Ldn_Ambulance

This is Alireza. He lived in Ahwaz, in Iran. He was killed, beheaded, by his brother and cousins for being gay. He was only 20. He was about to flee to Turkey, where many LGBT Iranians live.

Delighted to share that I've got a new job: Dad. I'll be off your screens for a bit as I embark on this next adventure. I can already tell it's going to be a lot of fun. See you in a few months!

After a few days feeling a bit rough, I've tested positive for covid. I am *triple* vaccinated, and always super careful (masks, distance, etc). Just goes to show how transmissable this virus is. Please don't be complacent just because you're vaccinated. It's still out there 🦠

On way to work this morning found this beautiful young pup wandering, seemingly abandoned. Very timid and afraid, very skinny, her chain rusted in to her fur, no tag, didn’t smell like she’d been washed in months. Left with local vet and hope to find out what happens to her 💔

We’d never come out of a pre-recorded package by saying the correspondent was “…reporting from England” on the BBC. We’d say Manchester…Devon…Kent…Sheffield. So why it’s considered ok to say “from Scotland” or “from Wales” is beyond me.

To the editor who said “You’ve only done radio, you’d never be able to do TV”: Hiya! 👋 Just spent my day anchoring BBC News around the world. To the editor who said “You’re too TV now to do radio”: Hiya! 👋 Just spent my weekend on the radio covering the coronation of a King 🤷‍♂️

My dad died three years ago today. I got a phone call from my mum about 9.30am, and it was one of those situations where I knew what she was calling to say before I even answered. These were his cufflinks (he was in the navy, so lots of maritime details in his life).

On this day (18 April) in 1930, the BBC ran a bulletin saying 'There is no news' and played piano music instead. I miss those days.

Decompressing after a run of night shifts, including last night’s exhausting ~seven hours of live TV news~ with this very good boy
