First, Elias Irizarry stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Then he was convicted for his role in the attack. Then he was pardoned by President Trump. And now, the Trump Administration has appointed him to work in the most sensitive counterterrorist office at the Pentagon, on the team that handles hostage rescue, embassy security, and classified special operations.
Pentagon staff alarmed by this appointment are speaking out anonymously because they are afraid of retaliation for telling the truth.
This is entirely unacceptable. No one who played an active role in assaulting our democracy should be given a role in the government they sought to overthrow.
