Wallace Reid (right) in Cecil B. deMille's 'Maria Rosa', adapted from the Catalan play by Guimerra. Notice that all his outfit is Catalan: red barret, short pants and the 'alpergatas'. I have been DYING to see this film. Unfortunately, the Eastman Museum doesn't share its copy.

First Lady from 1924 to 1928, second and most famous from 1936 onwards until 1972, when they sort of 'blurred' her into color. The last one, from 93, is less important to film history. They are all gone by now, since the logo is simple and uninspired.

Claudette Colbert was the first actress I ever interviewed, when a film festival honoured her in 1988. She was one of the kindest people I can remember, with such a great sense of humour and generosity. Here is the (autographed) book that was released back then.

Yes, in Europe. Portugal. It's Tomar and it was the knights templar's treasure. Prices there will be about half of what you are used to. Rent a flat overlooking the river and the castle. You won't be disappointed.

Peter Lorre, whose talent was as exquisite as his famous look, was perhaps never given the right opportunity to show that he indeed was one of the best actors in the world. Yet, his films are now cult movies and his name remains as a reference in cinema history.

Since Bergman's masterpiece is here, why not comedy for a change?
