“Speak your truth quietly and clearly and respectfully, and let people know you are not against rugby, you just want to improve the quality of life for your fellow human beings. That is what this is all about.” Dr Bennet Omalu to Progressive Rugby - March 2021

🚨Statement on Owen Farrell Prof John Fairclough of Progressive Rugby said: “Today’s astounding decision to overturn the 🟥 given to Owen Farrell for his tackle on Taine Basham has made a mockery of World Rugby’s claim that player welfare is the game’s number one priority. 1/2

🚨Breaking news According to @Murray_Kinsella World Rugby will appeal the Owen Farrell decision. This would be highly unusual but welcome news.

Medical student Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, 21, will miss the final match of the 6N with 🇫🇷 after self-diagnosing a concussion post the Ireland game and informing team medics. This is an exceptional example to set both his teammates and the young fans that idolise their heroes 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

On this day in 2003, after 100 minutes of energy-sapping collisions, Steve Thompson threw the ball to the back of the line out from which England worked the ball upfield and Jonny Wilkinson secured RWC glory. Unforgettable. For most of us 😢 #protecttheplayers

This is what a role model looks like. The final 7 words are exactly why you’d want Aurélie Groizeleau refereeing your kids. “My report is with the match doctor, not those of the teams. If he tells me he has to go out, we apply the medical protocol without discussion." #ITAvENG

Almost impossible to understand what a hugely-experienced player with 50 caps for the All Blacks was thinking here. Horrible.

A reminder this morning that you can feel desperately for Sam Cane, whilst also acknowledging that it was a red under the current laws. We maintain Jesse Kriel should have left the field for a HIA. #NZLvRSA #RWC23Final

Great to see a member of the South African staff respectfully - but firmly - escorting a resistant Siya Kolisi from the field for a HIA just 7 minutes before he’d get to celebrate a deserved tour-ending victory. Exactly the level of care the game has to demonstrate 👏🏻 #ENGvRSA

Update: Progressive Rugby have just appeared on @bbc5live urging World Rugby/Six Nations to appeal the decision. Prof Fairclough told the show it sends an “entirely erroneous message” to the rugby community who are having to coach and learn how to tackle below the sternum.

    Replying to @ProgressiveRug
“Additionally, despite protestations in the judgement to the contrary, it has critically undermined the newly introduced bunker process before a global tournament and eroded confidence in the game’s judicial process which is meant to help protect those playing the game.” ENDS
