    Octavia Butler told me one of the failures of sci-fi /fantasy was its inability to imagine the alien other as anything different from a human form "with a mask on." I rate sci-fi on that basis to this day. Yes. I knew her. Yes. She was exceptional.

    When I assumed chair of the Appointments Promotions &Tenure Cmte at Duke U, as I entered board room one of the committee members asked me for a coffee. So I went to the sideboard, got him a cup, then went to head of the table and called the cmte to order. Coffee was spilt.

    When #JohnLewis's grandmother died there was a Klan bounty on him. The Troy AL funeral home (Harrison) who had her body, slipped him in to say his farewells, and safely got him away. Black funeral homes were a Civil Rights era political site and sanctuary. Our history #PassedOn

    I'll match my psycholinguistics/language acquisition background (incl. my PhD) w/your "research-based baby-talk." Complex speech patterns yield greater language comprehension and production. Yes, baby talked to children speak. How they speak and understand is the variable.
