I wonder if Palestinian Christian women would say the same.

Jesus upheld a ridiculously high standard of obedience, and yet excessively loved those who fell short of it. Go and do likewise.

Christians had their greatest, most pervasive, impact on the world in their first 300 years of existence. And they did so without a weekly rhythm of large, indoor church services. Their impact came through caring for the poor, humanizing women, and a commitment to nonviolence.

Thoughts on this? Right wing, Republican-only Christianity has contributed significantly to younger people deconstructing from the faith.

Dear Christian, If your favorite news outlet stunts your desire to love your neighbor (regardless of partisan affiliation), it’s pushing you away from the heart of Jesus and it’s time to turn it off.

My political position. I’m an exile living in Babylon. Babylonian politics are interesting and sometimes quite entertaining. But they aren’t redemptive and they didn’t—and never will—die for me. My allegiance will always be toward the one who will bring me home.

The same people who say: “we should go to Haiti on a mission trip to serve the people there!” should never say: “we don’t want Haitians living among us”

My 9 year old: “daddy, can you teach me the Lord’s prayer?” Me: “Sure buddy. Why do you want to memorize it?” “Because I want to say something I believe while my classmates are reciting the pledge of allegiance.” Me: 😳😳😳 Jesus: “Out of the mouth of babes...”

Dear Christian, if an attack on your preferred political party absolutely infuriates you, then your allegiance might be misguided. Christians don’t have ultimate allegiances to any one of Babylon’s political tribes. Our allegiance is to the Creator’s upside down kingdom.

No first century Christian would have confused or conflated allegiance to Christ with Roman nationalism.

I rarely give parenting advice. But if I were to give one piece of advice, it'd be this: Parents, delay giving your kids a smartphone and allowing social media accounts for as long as you possibly can. Teach them how to engage in embodied relationships.

The progressive Christian left sounds soooo much like the fundamentalist right I grew up in. Different values; same posture, tone, and passion to demonize the “other.”

Authentically singing worship songs about surrendering it all and laying it all down must include giving up racism, idolatrous forms of patriotism, greed, misogyny, and apathy toward the poor.
