In a moment transcending sports, Blake Cerveny @burke_XCTF collapsed at A-Districts w/ 75 meters to go. No hope of finishing. Brandon Schutt @BellevueEastXC gave up 3 spots to stop, pull him up, and support him to the finish. Under new rule, Schutt is not DQ’d. Incredible act.

A cool, spontaneous moment at the State meet. We had a long delay before the girls 100 heats due to a re-race in a Class C 110 hurdles. The Class A competitors joined in prayer, led by an athlete from Lincoln High.

A 45-foot triple jump on May 22nd. Paralyzed below the neck seven days later. Three forbidden promises. Two rides on a Lear jet. One amazing journey. Have you heard about the fall and rise of Emmett Hassenstab? preprunningnerd.com/post/emmett

At Thurs OPS mtg: Adam Ali, Omaha South XC, said that he understands that OPS is trying to protect students. “Protect me from the drug dealers in my neighborhood. Protect me from the gunshots I hear so often. Danger has never closed the door for success until now.”

There was a seven-minute gap between the 400 and 1600 so the Class B girls made good use of the time. The entire field joined in prayer. I love these girls.

“The 3200 is a hard race so I try to give glory to Him for every lap I am able to run” - Carson Noecker of Cedar Catholic after I asked him about the Sign of the Cross he made several times during his record-setting 3200. @H_NWildcats @CedarCatholic

Emmett Hassenstab was paralyzed in a diving accident less than 14 months ago. Left a rehab hospital to walk in his family’s ‘virtual’ 4x100 2021 for the Cornhusker State Games. Ran - not walked - the CSG family 4x100 today. The miracles continue. preprunningnerd.com/post/emmett

Yesterday Braxton Smith of Waverly qualified for the 100 finals today before winning the Class B 400, but he scratched from the late-night 200 prelims due to an apparent injury. He walked the 100 finals today to earn 8th place and one point for his team. Never quit.

Berlyn Schutz. Ran her previous 1600 PR of 5:01 as an 8th grader, then placed 2nd at XC State as a freshman. She has been open about her brutal struggle with puberty. Ran a 4:51.73 today, 16 seconds faster than her previous HS best. A role model. A beast. We're huge fans.
