EXCITING NEWS! We have reached a settlement agreement in Pascua Yaqui v. Rodriguez that will reinstate an early voting site on the Pasqua Yaqui reservation! @pytribe will be hosting our office at a press conference on Monday, August 16th at 2pm to celebrate the agreement!
A purple graphic with the headline, "Settlement Reached in Pascua Yaqui v. Rodriguez!" Below, there is a quote from Pima County Recorder Gabriella Cázares-Kelly that says, "It is an honor to reinstate the early voting site to provide equitable access for Tribal communities. We look forward to many years of working with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and Tohono O’odham Nation, the first inhabitants of what is now considered Pima County, to ensure everyone is able to participate in our democracy." There is a picture of Gabriella, Stephanie Homewytewa (Tohono O'odham Voter Outreach Coordinator), and Maria Johnson (Special Staff Assistant) with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe Chairman Yucupicio and Council from their April 2021 visit. They are holding up a beautiful painting of a hummingbird, which the Tribe gifted the office. Pima County Recorder Gabriella Cázares-Kelly has asked Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey to veto HB2492. In addition to this bill being particularly harmful to Native American voters and the possibility of criminalizing our staff due to errors, this bill also violates Federal Law.

Statement from Pima County Recorder Gabriella Cázares-Kelly about State Senate Budget:
“We are incredibly disappointed to see the budget bills the Arizona State Senate passed through the night. This is a full-scale attack on Arizonans. These bills are extreme reactions to the 2020 General Election to punish our voters, educators, and working class families.

The Senate bulldozed this budget through with zero engagement or transparency. The State Legislature is threatening the integrity of our elections, security of our elections procedures, and privacy of voter data.

Our most meaningful policies, like the 20 year old vote-by-mail system, have resulted from bipartisan collaboration. We ask the Legislature to pass a budget together that will protect and fight for all Arizonans.”

Although Recorder Cázares-Kelly is extremely disappointed in the Court's decision, this will not result in any policy changes in #Arizona.
a blue graphic with the white Pima County Recorder's Office logo in the top left corner. The title in the graphic is in black and reads "U.S. Supreme Court Rules Against Arizona Voters" with "Pima County Recorder's Office" below. There is text in a white box that says:
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the state of Arizona, upholding the prohibition on ballot harvesting and fully-discarding out-of-precinct ballots.
Pima County Recorder Gabriella Cázares-Kelly says she is “deeply disappointed” with the Court’s decision. “Today’s decision from the Court completely disregards the present-day racial disparities in access to voting and allows us to continue to challenge white supremacist laws and policies in the election process."
And at the bottom, it says in black text, "For media inquiries, please contact Maria Johnson at 520-724-4337 or maria.johnson@recorder.pima.gov."
