NEW for @TheAthletic, the Carolina Hurricanes are two wins away from proving they made the right call in not upgrading in goal at the trade deadline. But they’re testing the limits of that decision in this Stanley Cup Final. My column, free to read ⤵️

Matthew Tkachuk says him, his brother Brady and JT Miller were on a group chat earlier today and decided they wanted to drop the gloves early tonight.

One week in and I'm already tired of the pre-season. For the last time, let's start the regular season around Sept. 20 or so and award the Stanley Cup by May 31? Less practice hockey in September, and no hockey in June. Everyone on board?

But Provorov obviously does not respect “everyone”. If he did respect everyone, he would have taken part in warm-up and worn the Pride Night jersey. Don’t hide behind religion.
    Replying to @giana_jade
Ivan Provorov said “I respect everyone. I respect everybody’s choices. My choice is to stay true to myself and my religion.” Said he won’t go into it any further and will only take hockey questions. He did clarify his religion is Russian Orthodox. Flyers shut down any other Qs.

Matthew Tkachuk on some fans booing the U.S. anthem: “I didn’t like it. That’s all I got.”

I will never give up. A reminder of how the NHL would look like if I were commissioner 🤪: - Stanley Cup awarded by May 31 - shorten camp and pre-season, drop puck on regular season around Sept. 15 - no more all star games ever - move draft earlier in June as a result of season

This goes without saying but I will say it anyway: any player opting out of the tournament should not be second-guessed. These are uncertain times. Nobody has all the facts. Respect everyone’s decision on this.

Sidney Crosby just now on Nathan MacKinnon: “I am really happy for Nate. I know how much it means to him and his family. I have seen how hard he’s worked to achieve this and glad that he’s got rewarded and gets to experience everything that comes with winning. It’s special.”

Remember the 11-year-old from Newfoundland who had a birthday party but nobody showed up? The Leafs have Kade Foster and his family here today for the game. He’s meeting some of the Leafs players now as we speak.

My heart goes out to the Gaudreau family and what they're going through. Unimaginable. Thinking of every player and member of the organization and wishing the Blue Jackets strength as they find a way through this horrific event. The entire sport is mourning. Brutal all-around.

Hearing that Carey Price has waived his no-move for purpose of exposure in the expansion draft so that the Habs could protect Jake Allen in the expansion draft. The thought is that Seattle wouldn’t want to pick up the rest of Price’s hefty contract. But I guess we will see.

I'm not pretending to have all the answers, but I'm disappointed by the NHL's decision here. Feels like a step backwards. I get that there's some owners that maybe will never be swayed. But further dialogue and education should be the focus. Not giving it to the dissenting voices
From NHL Board of Governors: teams will not wear specialty jerseys in warmups next season. Also: Cap, Ottawa, Arizona and other topics. With Commissioner Gary Bettman here — sportsnet.ca/nhl/video/bett…

Just seeing this now. Lump in my throat... amazing gesture by Carey Price.
Carey Price showing he is one of the classiest athletes in all of sports. The young man (Anderson) idolizes Price and his mother, before dying of cancer, promised she would try to help them meet. It finally happened. Both feel the emotion as Anderson’s dream finally comes true.
