Happy Christmas from the toilet roll fairy who has made 32 appearances at the top of the tree. Our best decoration.

You cannot write by success criteria. Asking children to write with a list grammar features to use makes writing hard. Writers focus on the flow of composition. Just bunging in fronted adverbials does not make writing successful. The success is creating an effect on the reader.

Some children will have learned more by being at home. Some will be back on course very rapidly. Some will benefit from extra support. Sounds like business as usual for schools as this is what we do.

Home schooling is not what parents are currently trying to do - they are supporting as best they can with online teaching and perhaps completing workbooks and other tasks. They are NOT home schooling which is the decision to educate your child at home.

Farewell Alan Ahlberg - here’s a little baby one, two, three… stands in his cot. What does he see. Janet and Alan shaped a generation with their books.
Probably the most well loved book on my shelves, as a child I slept with it, I could read it to my kids by heart, I think it taught me what a book should be. A fond farewell to the incomparable Allan Ahlberg, and everlasting thanks.

It’s that time of year when leaders tell year six teachers that a certain percentage HAVE to be at a certain level. I get stories about this unprofessional pressure year after year. I want to say - it’s too late! The year six teacher is not the goalie whom everyone can blame.

Govt should vaccinate all school staff (teachers, cleaners, etc). When children return, covid will once again start spreading - infecting staff and moving back into the community. At least, protect those who have to be on the front line.

Children who live in chaos need routine, systems, boundaries and patterns urgently when they come to school.

Has Mogg gone? If so, I’m cracking open a bottle of fizz - I’ll never forget the image of him lying across the seats in parliament. Privileged arrogance that disrespected the office of state and the people. It’s about service not ego.

Apparently this vulgar gesture comes from an education minister - the Johnson approach means anyone can behave as they wish. How I despise these people with their immature behaviour - surely a minister should set a higher tone.

534 deaths from Covid today.... schools and the health service know what is going on but our leaders are pretending it's all over.
