God bless you, Peter. What you've done to make this world a better place and more aware will never, ever be forgotten by those of us who loved you. Without a doubt, you are the strongest and bravest man many of us will ever know. Rest in peace, my friend.

.@RedSox reliever Joe Kelly in the house ... gets a HUGE ovation from the TD Garden crowd after his beanbrawl video vs. Yankees the other day is shown on Jumbotron. Because of course that just happened

Extremely saddened to report that our beloved and longtime sports correspondent, Jean DePlacido, passed away Sunday. Jean was a North Shore sports icon for 40+ years, someone that everyone knew, loved, & respected. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and many friends.

It doesn't matter what uniform you wear, what team you coach or what school you root for -- at its core it's one big North Shore hockey family united by a love of the game and the respect for those involved in it. Our prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the Dailey Family.💔

Ben Goodhue always - always - called me 'Mr. Stacey', never Phil. He was old school that way. A favorite memory: at the 2012 Beverly High football Super Bowl title banquet, the team's linemen lovingly chided him, their line coach, for his tough but effective ways. RIP, my friend.

He didn’t do this to be seen or congratulated, but @SJP_Hockey captain Jack Gilligan quietly gathered up sticks left outside the locker room by frustrated teammates following their season-ending OT loss & calmly brought them into the room. You can’t teach excellent character.

The best thing about hockey community, from Pee-Wees to the pros, is that it's one giant family. That's what makes it so hard to lose someone like Travis Roy. He inspired millions with his speeches, including one of my (non-hockey playing) sons. RIP to a true legend of the sport.

Absolute best thing I heard from a family friend tonight during the Celebration of Life for @PeteFrates3 at St. John’s Prep: “ALS is known as Lou Gehrig’s disease; I hope it will eventually be known as Pete Frates’ cure.” @TeamFrateTrain @stjohnsprep

Covered my first high school football game (Westwood at Ipswich) on September 15, 1990. That means today marks the start of my 34th year at The Salem News. Thousands of games covered, stories written and great people I’ve met along this wonderful journey. Thanks to you all.

After 42 distinguished seasons, the legendary Billy O'Neill is stepping down as head coach of the Salem State men's hockey team. O'Neill's teams went 626-436-76 during his tenure, with two Frozen Four appearances. He is one of just 2 hockey coaches in Div. 3 with 600 career wins.

It’s my 30th straight Thanksgiving Day working for The Salem News, and by my count it’s 46 Thanksgiving games I’ve attended since my first one in 1971. Thankful to have a job that I love and to be able to chronicle these players and teams for future generations to enjoy.
