The Spanish Government is proposing a new law on great apes - chimpanzees, gorillas, bonobos and orangutans - that gives them better protection and prohibits commercial exploitation that conflicts with their dignity. A law that recognizes the dignity of a nonhuman animal is an

After 52 years, I have eaten chicken again!  But no animal was raised and killed for my meal.  It was cultivated chicken, grown from cells by @GOODMeat - yes, that's correct, google it - and Singapore was, until very recently, the only place in the world where you could eat it.

Awful as Netanyahu's government has been, that is no excuse for the atrocities committed against Israeli civilians by Hamas terrorists. Hamas has repeatedly attacked civilians, knowing well that this will lead to Israeli attacks on Gaza that are bound to kill ...(1/2)

One of my readers has asked for my view on the proposed constitutional amendment to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament. I will vote "yes." The Voice isn't enough, but it's better than nothing.

Look at the fantastic billboard that @peta has put up on New York's Times Square before Thanksgiving! And thanks, PETA, for promoting Consider the Turkey to all your supporters: peta.org/blog/consider-…

Q: You posted an article indicating that sexual intercourse with animals is morally permissible. You've also in the past published a book arguing for veganism. That being the case, is it your official position that eating animals is not okay but having sex with them is? A: I
Another thought-provoking article is "Zoophilia Is Morally Permissible" by Fira Bensto (pseudonym), which is just out in the current issue of @JConIdeas. This piece challenges one of society's strongest taboos and argues for the moral permissibility of some forms of sexual

I wish the media would not think of being vegan like being kosher or halal. It's not about purity, it's about saving the planet and reducing animal suffering.
Of course vegans may eat a vegan burger cooked on a meat grill-It's only people allergic to meat who can't. theguardian.com/business/2020/…

Today Renata, my wife, and I are celebrating 50 years as vegetarians! So glad we made this decision all those years ago, when vegetarians were still thought of as cranks. It all started a chance lunch with with Richard Keshen - thanks Richard! cbucommons.ca/rkeshen/bio/

I've signed an open letter urging an end to the forced swim test in animal research. To force animals to swim for their lives for 20 minutes is ethically unacceptable and scientifically debatable. Many institutions have already stopped using it, and it's time for a wider change.

Let’s give credit where it is due: @McDonalds's have reached their goal of sourcing 100% their U.S. egg supply from cage-free hens, as they pledged they would. Of course “cage-free” usually still means confined indoors, crowded with thousands of other hens in a giant shed. It’s

This could end the suffering of tens of billions of chickens every year -- Professor John Webster, emeritus professor of animal husbandry at University of Bristol calls it "“the single most severe example of man's inhumanity to another sentient animal."

Much as I detest Trump, the media's interpretation of what he said about Charlottesville wasn't entirely fair: project-syndicate.org/commentary/ant…
