    1/5 Have you read the deal agreed between the US and the Taliban? It explains why the Taliban now rule Afghanistan again; the US just surrendered it, even promising financial support. A quick thread follows but 1st a pic of Big Mike Pompeo doing the deal in Doha in Feb 2020...

    A WHO source confirmed the letters Nu and Xi of the Greek alphabet had been deliberately avoided. Nu had been skipped to avoid confusion with the word "new" and Xi had been skipped to "avoid stigmatising a region", they said. All pandemics inherently political!

    Covid Twitter is a gloomy place tonight, so let me float this possibility: the new variant may turn out to be much LESS virulent than other Covid variants. Perhaps it moves fast but poses no more threat than the common cold 🤞

    Why are we only at level 4 when we are having to put up tents in hospital car parks? Surely the need for tents in of itself explicitly signals there is a "risk of healthcare services being overwhelmed"? #Covid_19
