1/5 Have you read the deal agreed between the US and the Taliban?
It explains why the Taliban now rule Afghanistan again; the US just surrendered it, even promising financial support.
A quick thread follows but 1st a pic of Big Mike Pompeo doing the deal in Doha in Feb 2020...

- The damage to reputation has been immeasurable. “What has become of your country?” one foreign diplomat asked me the other day. “We see only a ship of fools, and a plague ship at that.”
- A WHO source confirmed the letters Nu and Xi of the Greek alphabet had been deliberately avoided. Nu had been skipped to avoid confusion with the word "new" and Xi had been skipped to "avoid stigmatising a region", they said. All pandemics inherently political!
- Replying to @PaulNuki3/ If you think my take on this a bit one sided, I urge you to read the agreement for yourself. It's basically Versailles, as drafted by the Taliban. Here it is in full. It takes just 5 mins to read: 2017-2021.state.gov/wp-content/upl…
- 1/ There's a lot of balls circulating about the UK's pandemic response and specifically *herd immunity*. Yet most of it is fully documented. Here's a thread pulling together some of the key points...
- Replying to @PaulNuki5/ And what of the Taliban; how did they seem at the signing ceremony in Doha last year? Well, as usual, they appeared to be hanging tough. But having played an absolute blinder, they were almost certainly crying with laughter on the inside.

- Replying to @PaulNukiv/ Being friends with the Taliban in future and helping them build their new Islamic state via "economic cooperation". A new US/Afghani narco hub perhaps??Smashing...
- Covid Twitter is a gloomy place tonight, so let me float this possibility: the new variant may turn out to be much LESS virulent than other Covid variants. Perhaps it moves fast but poses no more threat than the common cold 🤞
- Replying to @PaulNukiiii/ Dropping all sanctions/bounties on the Taliban by a week this Friday so they can get on with building their new caliphate unhindered. Great ...
- Replying to @PaulNukiiv/ A firm promise not to threaten the Taliban ever again or interfere in the running of their new caliphate. Super ...
- Why are we only at level 4 when we are having to put up tents in hospital car parks? Surely the need for tents in of itself explicitly signals there is a "risk of healthcare services being overwhelmed"? #Covid_19
- THREAD 1/10 I'm sorry to say it on New Year's Day, but I think there is a serious chance now that the UK government's omicron gamble is about to go tits up....
