"Under the banner of diversity, we are told to bring ourselves and our perspectives. But, if we bring too much of them, we are marked and kept back." For @walrusmagazine, I wrote about my decade in journalism and the cost of being The Only One In The Room.

Palestine TV correspondent Salman Al-Bishr removing his flak jacket and helmet after hearing about the death of his colleague is a damning symbolic indictment of the overwhelming silence of the international journalism community on Israel’s targeting of journalists.
Palestine TV correspondent, Salman Al-Bishr, throws the press shield to the ground as soon as he hears the news of his colleague Muhammad Abu Hatab being killed 💔🇵🇸

"This is theatre. It's not a military base... There is no guns. There is books, pictures, cameras, musical instruments... They arrest us as artists. They destroy everything that shows that we have culture, we have art."
The IDF raided the renowned Jenin cultural institution @freedom_theatre while children looked on "screaming and crying." Staff were seized, detained and tortured, while the theater was trashed and robbed. Artistic director Ahmed Tobasi describes the ordeal.

The scene in downtown Toronto, Nathan Phillips Square. Traffic is being blocked off and the streets are raucous with continuous honking as thousands show up to protest in a show of solidarity with Palestinians.

Here's "Spiderman" at the protest on Nov. 12th, 2023, which began at City Hall and wove through the core of the city. He's seen here on scaffolding near a construction site at Yonge and Gerrard. The suggestion that his scaling was 'targeted' is disingenuous. He 'scales' the city.
The person dressed as Spiderman waving the Palestinian flag during the march in Toronto last night went on many elevated platforms for a few mins at a time, e.g. construction platforms, entrance to Eaton Centre, hospital entrance overhangs. I didn't see evidence of targeting.

This has been quietly writing itself in my head for years. The anger of this summer forced it onto page. I almost gave into a debilitating anxiety and abandoned it. But giving into silence - again - felt even more crushing. Because it's true.

"I’m painfully aware that every time I talk about our shortcomings when covering Palestine...I lose 'credibility.' I silently agreed not to talk about Palestine in exchange for a 'viable' career in journalism. No longer." My @TorontoStar op-ed today:

"IS YOU IS OR IS YOU AIN'T GOT GAAAAAS MONAAAYYYY" gotta be my favourite line of that @chancetherapper tape. Kills me every time.

Thousands of protesters marched through downtown Toronto today calling for an immediate ceasefire and a free Palestine.

Oh, look. Same reviewer: Girls Trip "goes too far" and "takes vulgarity to the extreme"; but The Hangover is "worth the ride"!

The police statement on what we now know as the murder of George Floyd is the clearest reminder that “the police are not, in and of themselves, objective observers of things. They are political and government entities who are the literal characters in the story.” - @WesleyLowery

This is Canadian doctor Tarek Loubani, who was shot in the legs by the Israeli military during the Great March of Return in 2018 at the Gaza border, where he was part of the team of first responders. Israeli forces killed at least 60 Palestinians. More: cbc.ca/1.4663689
Today, I will be arrested by police in London, Canada. The police will put me in jail indefinitely because I will not stop protesting against MP Peter Fragiskatos, who refuses to call for a ceasefire against the civilians in Gaza. What's happening. What you can do. A 🧵
