DG Irish Universities Association from Nov 2025. UK Ambassador to Ireland 2020-25: previously in Paris, Stockholm, London and the UK missions to UN, NATO & EU.
The UK-Irish relationship has probably never been comparable to a cloudless sky but come rain or shine it’s a privilege to support it and to do so in such a special place, 70 years old as the Ambassador’s residence.
Through a glass lightly. Taoiseach @SimonHarrisTD is the first guest of @Keir_Starmer at Chequers and they enjoy a pint together in the garden before dinner.
@merrionstreet @simoncoveney @dfatirl Thank you for this very special gesture. @BritEmbDublin Tricolour at half mast on all State buildings for Prince Philip
It was very kind of @simoncoveney not only to come to @BritEmbDublin to pay his condolences tonight but also to take time to talk to the team. It was greatly appreciated. @dfatirl
If ever the Irish compliment “he’s a gentleman” applied to anyone it was to my friend Tommie. Respected on every side in Northern Ireland, an exemplar of public service broadcasting and one of the nicest men I’ve ever met. RIP my friend.
Tommie had texted me last week to update me on his illness. I replied wishing him well. My last words, which will now be my last words to him, were “you’re a great friend, to us and to our country”. I meant - and mean - every word. @rte@rtenews@NIOgov

Thanks @Keir_Starmer for a great visit and thanks @SimonHarrisTD for your excellent hospitality. All of us @BritEmbDublin are excited by the chance to work on your ambitious reset of this crucial relationship, indeed friendship. Onwards and upwards!
Honoured and delighted to be appointed. Ireland is a hugely important partner for the UK, as @BorisJohnson and @DominicRaab have noted in welcoming the new government.
Thanks for all the lovely messages today, from Ministers, TDs, writers, directors, comedians (professional and otherwise), business people, academics and actors. I never doubted it was the right thing to do but I’m even more sure now! ❤️👍
British ambassador to Ireland Paul Johnston, who is finishing his posting in September, has announced that he and his wife will stay in Ireland and leave the British diplomatic service irishtimes.com/politics/2025/…
It was a lovely gesture by @UCC to mark my visit and reading the range of responses to the tweet below has also been very illuminating! All I can say is I loved my visit to Cork!
An honour and a pleasure to welcome The Princess Royal back to Dublin and to participate in Her meeting with @PresidentIRL this morning. @RoyalFamily@BritEmbDublin
HRH The Princess Royal is in Dublin today for a one-day visit.
She was formally welcomed by @PresidentIRL Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina at Áras an Uachtaráin — a moment to honour his contribution to Irish public life and the strong ties between our nations 🇬🇧 🤝 🇮🇪
