Polio has a 99.95% survival rate. Still rather important to prevent it. 99.5% don’t get permanent paralysis. Nobody argues we should learn to live with polio. Why the different attitude to SARS2? Real question…

- I don’t know who needs to hear this but WEARING A MASK INDOORS AND WORKING FROM HOME WHEN POSSIBLE IS NOT A LOCKDOWN
- I asked someone today why they are so visibly annoyed by my wearing a mask. “Because everyone else has got over it” Which I think means “your mask reminds us we are in a pandemic but we are all trying to ignore it so it upsets me so I’m angry with you”. Revealing.
- FFS. Nosh Lyles just raced the 200m with covid. Stupid for him, ok. But he’s now huffing all over everyone afterwards, he was in the ready room with no mask, sharing virus with the other elite athletes and HE DIDNT EVEN TELL THEM. Just immoral.
- I’ve just seen a tweet with a couple wearing N95s at a gig and people are commenting they are being “cavalier”. I don’t understand. Good respirators are extremely efficient and protect people from infection on actual Covid wards. Surely we should be happy when people use them?
- So we are in a huge crisis diverting military and NHS resources to boosters. And people still shopping, having parties, children at school unmasked and unvaccinated. We need a new word as cognitive dissonance no longer covers it.
- Dear everyone. Please stop saying “after covid” “post-covid” or “as we emerge from the pandemic”. You do know we have over 100 deaths a day, four figure admissions and about 180,000 new cases every day in UK don’t you? And 5-12% will have symptoms for months, later risk of death?
- I’m having a surreal and angering day. IRL almost everyone thinks covid is mild, no need for masks or any care at all, just a cold. In the literature there are 1000s of papers detailing the horrors of covid - cancer, autoimmune, vascular, brain injury. Sickening beyond belief.
- So, govt refused to take precautions when cases started to rise because admissions weren’t yet rising. Now they refuse to take precautions because admissions are already rising so it’s “too late”. Clever. It avoids the need for any action ever, which is presumably the idea
- Professional virologist and very sensible dear friend asked me yesterday if I really do think covid is neurotoxic. I just said yes. Sitting with a friend whose children have had it. I do understand it’s frightening and grim but at least trying not to get it again is advisable.
- Replying to @ArielElyseGold and @DeborahParrThe irony of Jews treating other humans as less than human, of saying “there are no civilians in Gaza” is beyond description.
- Oh come on. It’s only TWO MONTHS since the last wave and we are already on the up again, from 120,000 cases a day. We can’t go on like this.
- They’re going to open schools without masks and mitigations aren’t they. And leave everything else open and conveniently run out of PCR tests. March 2020 but worse.
- Nobody is coming is now the basis on which I live my life. I no longer am sure of any of the old certainties at societal level (power, water, food, freedom, democracy, government, employment, institutions, rule of law, people wanting to improve health, anything). 1/2
