    Today I told my students I won’t be their teacher in January, which was way sadder than I expected. But the good news - that I’ll be a Creative Writing Lecturer at @LancasterUni from next month - is really, really exciting 😊

    Once when I was teaching, the room full of teenage boys decided to try to guess - entirely unprompted - where I bought my clothes. They arrived quite quickly at the right answer (UniQlo) but not before someone suggested WHSmith?? Lord have mercy, I was HUMBLED

    I’m in the early stages of writing Book 3, and I’m remembering that the hardest thing about trying to write a good book is that you have to write it badly first.

    People of colour don’t always feel empowered to publicly challenge racism, because of racist backlash. So when those people of colour do stand up for what’s right and we are ignored, dismissed or patronised it’s particularly confusing/shocking.
