- Replying to @TulsiGabbardMs. Gabbard, the concentration of radioinuclides in the water that will be released over a decade is well below the extremely conservative drinking water thresholds for those isotopes. The total amount of tritium in that water amounts to about 400 exit signs that can be purchased
- Friendly reminder: Nuclear energy is exactly as easy or as difficult as we choose to make it. 99% of the nuclear reactors in the US were designed with the use of sliderules and punch-card based computer programs before CAD or computerized manufacturing.
- Replying to @CodysLabI do wish there was some scale on this. What exactly is being measured? Different elements would likely be dropping out at slightly different locations. It is pretty incredible to think that we have nuked one little area of Nevada nearly 1000 times. Additionally, we've blown up
- Replying to @Nuclearjunkie and @TulsiGabbardI should note that drinking one liter of water straight out of the storage tanks (150,000Bq/l) is roughly equivalent to eating about 10 bananas. The plan is to dilute the water more than 100x as it is discharged in order to bring the tritium concentration down to less than
- Replying to @FPWellmanThe AR-15 is a great hunting rifle for small game but is a bit underpowered for deer. Many states have requirements on min muzzle energy for deer hunting or require a 12ga slug. 5.56 is a pretty low energy round that loses energy quickly.
- The operator of the German nuclear plant Isar 2 has spoken out that they can continue operating the plant beyond the closure date in January 2023.
- Replying to @mynamebedanThis is my basement cluster 60 cpu cores, 160GB of ram, 4TB Raid-5 NVME SSD on main node + 512GB NVME SSD on sub nodes, 2.5G network. I use MASS to manage it. Not anywhere near as neat and a lot more kludged together from spare parts. Mostly it runs OpenMC simulations of
- Replying to @MarcoPoloMapsThe view from the highest point on that map!
- Replying to @HannoKlausmeierLol, 117 is flat out propaganda. 6.4 - 5.1 is what the UN found in their most recent analysis. Analysis of Ontario nuclear have come in as low as 3. France is lower than average due to reprocessing and most inputs coming from cleanly electrified industries in-country.
- If your main argument against nuclear is that decarbonization will happen in less time than it takes to construct a plant, then you are delusional, plain and simple. Decarbonization of electricity will take decades.
- Something I've been mulling over recently. Opponents of nuclear energy like to assert that nuclear is an old industry and on its deathbed. I assert the counter claim that nuclear is still an infant technology and was the victim of industrial infanticide in numerous nations.
