If any of y'all are interested in my academic work, I upload all of my publications onto this page. Also sharing because I think some of my haters just think I am full-time Twitter libtard NGO aunty. I am that, but a little more too. 😉 lums.academia.edu/NidaKirmani

Expensive private schools in Pakistan have created a small class of young people who only converse in English, who get their culture from Netflix/Insta & only socialise with people in their own class. They are completely cut-off from the realities of the other 95%.

What is clear is that the BJP has definitely won the propaganda battle, not only with regard to the current escalation, but gradually & systematically over the last decade. Their ideological control has spread far outside the Right & deep into the mainstream & even the Left.

Where is the good old progressive, anti-war, Indian, Left? If you still exist, & I know a few still do, please for the love of humanity, make yourselves heard!

Dear friends, we are all safe. Waiting for the police to return everyone’s phones. We’ll be out soon. Don’t worry.

South Asian academics be like: ‘I’m a marginalised POC struggling to make it in the white academy’ and then post a pic of their dada having chai with Lord Mountbatten ten minutes later.

Marriage for most women, particularly in our part of the world, is a glorified prison. Many women use marriage to escape the prison of their own families only to be imprisoned by their husbands' families.
What opinion on Marriage will have you like this

It is unsurprising that the rich often don't 𝘴𝘦𝘦 class, that men don't 𝘴𝘦𝘦 gender, that white people don't 𝘴𝘦𝘦 race, that upper castes don't 𝘴𝘦𝘦 caste, that dominant ethnic groups don't 𝘴𝘦𝘦 ethnicity; privilege acts as a blinder to those below you in the hierarchy.

What can we learn from the #ImaneKhelif case? 1. The gender binary is inherently unstable. 2. Human bodies are extremely diverse. 3. Black/brown athletes face immense racism. 4. Transphobia has reached absurd heights. 5. Many hearts will bleed for a crying white woman.

Men get married so they can get their wives to do all of their unpaid labour to enable them to do well at their jobs & have fun with their mates and then complain about how awful it is to be tied down.

Calls for de-escalation are not naive; they are a political & moral imperative right now. Please be responsible, & stop cheering on your respective militaries. Too many lives are at stake, particularly those of the people of Kashmir. No one will win this war. Demand peace.

Even at Aga Khan Hospital, one of the best in the country, the radiologist asks 'are you married?' rather than 'is there any chance you might be pregnant?' They do this in airlines too, but I get particularly annoyed when this kind of ignorance comes from medical professionals.

Stop calling it the 'Israel-Gaza war'. This is not a war. A war has two comparable sides. This is a genocide supported & sanctioned by the world's superpowers. Call it what it is.
