This is Peter Norman’s feisty Mum at his statue unveiling. She’s so proud of his stand she takes her bag with that famous photo on it everywhere she goes . Peter was treated appallingly by the Australian Olympic Movement while he was alive . Remarkale man, remarkable story.

The treatment of asylum seekers at the Park Hotel is a national disgrace. Some have been detained there for years amid reports of maggot ridden food, Covid outbreaks, severe mental health issues. At least Novak Djokovic’s detention there has put a spotlight on this inhumanity.

I am no fan of Novak Djokovic and sceptical of the process that granted him a medical exemption. But the fact is, he now has that exemption. There are no grounds to cancel his visa. It is an appalling way to treat anyone. Australia looks like a backward backwater. A bloody farce!

Prime Minister holds a media conference on aged care RC report (8 volumes) before journos have a chance to read it. That’s just so disrespectful, dismissive of the thousands of Australians in aged care and their families so desperate for reform and meaningful change. Disgraceful.

The work by @samanthamaiden breaking and telling stories of vital importance has been outstanding. The AFR hit job is a disgrace. The journo is not the story .The facts are ..and they stack up. Her stories are inspiring long needed change ..that is what great journalism does.

Spoke to my son who manages a Melbourne bar. Anticipating bad news yesterday, they advertised takeaway tequila “slushies” via social media and they sold well ..locals lapped them up. He had a few himself. He says he and his team are struggling, but coping. I could not be prouder.

Myer should have gone ahead with the Christmas windows launch. It’s a beautiful Melbourne tradition for the entire community . They and the police should have been strong enough to defy protestors and protect those attending . Don’t just give up when the going gets tough!

It’s very clever McDonald’s marketing to create a “debate” about the name of the potato cake ..but I implore all, if you crave a potato cake, to go to your local Fish ‘n Chip shop a/ it’ll taste better there and b/ they really really need local support after COVID devastation.

Mark Knight's cartoon was legitimate, appropriate commentary on Serena Williams' childish, overbearing tantrum. It was NOT racist. @Knightcartoons is Australia's best cartoonist. We need fearless artists like him poking fun at the powerful for health of our democracy, society.

Scenes at St.Kilda beach tonight were alarming ...so many not wearing masks, so many not socially distant. I’d imagine those business owners with their livelihoods hanging on by a thread would be devastated. We are so close to getting out of this lockdown, don’t screw it up now!
  • user avatar
You’ve seen vision of the anti lockdown protest, now ask yourself- Who do you trust with your welfare ..thousands of dedicated, highly trained doctors, nurses, technicians busting their guts to beat coronavirus or the conspiracy theorists and anti-vaxxers now demonstrating ?!!?

My Grandfather lived through WW1, a pandemic, the Great Depression, WW2 and was the most happy, kind, decent bloke I’ve ever met. I don’t know how he and his generation did it time and again but we need to channel some of their resilience, fortitude and get through this ..together.

My wife and I had Astra Zeneca jabs at Royal Exhibition Building. We had no booking..in and out in 35 minutes ..but disappointed how few people were there. I get the need for “Fortress Australia”, but I want it to end ASAP. Widespread vaccination is the best way to achieve that.

I really admire the grace under fire of @MagdaSzubanski . Her ad is brilliant. Magda reinforces an important message with humour. She’s doing what she can to help others. And she is strong enough to stare down mindless political attacks. Bloody fantastic community leadership.
