    Marquez was born on August 8, 1908, in Carolina, Puerto Rico. He was the first-born son and the second oldest of 11 children born to Alberto Flores Melendez and Margarita Márquez-Garcia. He helped on the family farm and also assisted in taking care of his nine surviving siblings.

    Marquez aka "Don Millo"—was married for 75 years to Andrea Perez until she died in 2010. They had four children, two of whom are still alive. He currently lives with his children, Tirsa and "Millito," in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He has 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
