- Did you know that when Ella Fitzgerald couldn’t get booked by clubs and TV because she was black, Marilyn Monroe offered to come to a nightclub every night and sit in the front row if they let Ella sing? That’s how you use your privilege for good.
- Replying to @Nelle_AndrewElla always said after that she never had to play small jazz clubs ever again. She said she really owed Marilyn a debt. 😭
- My husband just went for a run. It’s 8pm but he did it anyway. He felt entirely able to. It didn’t occur to him he couldn’t or what might happen if he did. It didn’t occur to him to be afraid. That is all.
- This morning at 8.08am I passed my driving test at age 36. Don’t let age or stage stop you from going for the things you want.
- As someone who grew up in a DV household if you’re seeing the Oscar stuff & being triggered bcoz ppl are saying it’s defence/honour - believe it’s absolute BS. You know what you know. You’ve seen how it’s an excuse to lay hands. It’s triggering because it’s truth.

- I am in the fortunate position now of being able to reopen my subs and passionate about finding new authors. There are so many books I love but this is what I'm particularly looking for - a thread:
- I am starting to believe more and more that everyone in publishing should have to go and work periodically for a fortnight in a bookshop. Like 1x every 2x yrs. That would give such valuable insight into how people make their buying decisions & what they want.
- Replying to @tkt2everywhereI hope it never does and you can continue to feel safe to do this, which should be your basic human right
- After the 10th rude email in the last 2x weeks, I am dismayed at the rise in unpleasant responses to rejections for submissions. Insulting us & being uncivil, doesn't change our minds, even if it may make the one doing it, feel better. Agents are humans too, not punching bags.
- It’s a small hill to die on but it pisses me off more than it should the proverb: curiosity killed the cat. No one seems to remember the 2nd line which is - satisfaction brought it back. The whole point of the FULL quote is finding knowledge & being curious is worthwhile.
- Today has been an absolute privilege. If you could have told me as a girl reading battered copies of Silas Marner that one day, she would use George Eliot’s pen to sign her name on the scroll of Honorary Fellows @RSLiterature she would have exploded. 🖊️ ❤️❤️
