An owl obviously spotted something to eat even in the snow. They are wonderful creatures, but they don’t take prisoners!

In case anybody still thinks the spiralling fuel prices are a global phenomenon, this is Morrisons - in Gibraltar! Does anybody still believe the Government is doing all it can to tackle these issues?

Annie Lennox celebrates turning 70. It really is the new 60!

It’s beyond belief that a jet fighter was flown 600 miles from Moray to allow Boris Johnson to get into the cockpit for a photo opportunity. This is the man who pretended he cared about the environment at Cop26 three months ago!

I’ve been making up crosswords for more than 30 years and I still think it’s a near miracle that Britney Spears is an anagram of Presbyterians!

There have been some stunning images of the Northern Lights this week. If you want to marvel at the majesty of this natural wonder, check out the superb photographs of Ivan Hawick who lives on Shetland!

This tree in Wales was badly damaged in a storm and was scheduled to be cut down. But then, talented chainsaw sculptor Simon O’Rourke devised a way to depict its last attempt to reach for the sky. I think it’s very powerful!

Scotland looks wonderful in this picture from the International Space Station. As you can see, there’s snow around, but it’s still a beautiful sight!

I’ve been to Spain, Italy and Greece many times in the last 30 years and none of the “expat” English communities I’ve withessed have made any effort to learn a new language. Unless you count shouting at people or speaking very slowly to them. Today’s the end of UK Labour!

As we approach New Year, I’m determined to keep raising the question of why Afghanistan’s cricketers are allowed to play normally on the international stage when the Taliban doesn’t allow their women to speak in public, let alone play sport. It’s obscene! @jk_rowling @Martina

I watched the news programmes tonight. Whatever you think about Nicola Sturgeon, she is facing a level of political and media scrutiny which isn’t being applied to Matt Hancock or Boris Johnson. Sheer double standards. If there is a “one party state”, it’s England, not Scotland!

Even when the fog envelops the central belt, there is something mystical about the Kelpies. Indeed, they look almost real in this image!

Liz Truss has now said that even if the Supreme Court approves Indyref 2, she will block it. She doesn’t really get democracy, does she!

The Inversnecky Cafe on Aberdeen Beach is famous for its puns and pithy messages, and I think this is one of the best!
