    Grateful to @CircAHA for publishing our @nih_nhlbi funded 'bed-to-bench' research identifying novel mechanisms (and therapeutic targets) by which #ECMO regulates myocardial biology and #mitochondrial integrity that are independent of #hemodynamic load. ahajournals.org/doi/abs/10.116…
    VA-ECMO depletes myocardial tafazzin and cardiolipin which disrupts mitochondrial structural and functional integrity independent of hemodynamic load. Stabilizing cardiolipin reduces myocardial damage with VA-ECMO, thereby introducing a potentially new therapeutic approach to mitigate LV injury for thousands of patients requiring VA-ECMO support.

    Everyday I am humbled by the acuity of normotensive anterior #STEMI in the #DTU trial @Abiomed - this is not a benign condition even with rapid DTB times. Kudos to the #STEMI-DTU operators working around the globe and around the clock to solve this problem.

    It’s not about belief. It’s about physiology. IABPs target afterload - a key determinant of CO. IABPs play an important role when high afterload is involved - ie advanced HF or late presenting MI. Not all shock is equal. Hemodynamics may identify responders. Yes RCTs required.
