- We'll be monitoring portions of northern OK for storm development over the next few hours. Overall chances for development are low (~20%), but if a storm is able to form conditions will be favorable for a risk for damaging winds and large hail. #okwx
- Here is your plain language forecast for today: Afternoon heat indices will be in the triple digits across the area, with a heat advisory across the northern third of the area. Strong to severe storms are also possible this afternoon and evening, mainly along/north of I-44.
- Replying to @NWSNorman4:00 AM - While previous areas of rain and storms have fully dissipated, gusty southwest winds (up to 40 mph) remain possible in the general corridor from Buffalo to Alva to Medford prior to sunrise this morning. #okwx
GIF- 9 PM - Storms are approaching northwest OK. Activity is expected to weaken over time, but a few strong wind gusts are possible in the shaded region through 11 PM. #okwx
GIF - Storms are developing across eastern NM into the OK/TX panhandles and southwest KS. Much of this activity is expected to remain to our northwest, but there remains ~20% chance for storms to reach northwest OK this evening with the main risk being severe wind gusts. #okwx
GIF - Scattered clouds developed near/south of I-44 this morning. This has two impacts for us: A) Temperatures are a little slower to warm where cloud cover exists, reducing heat risk. B) Plenty of daytime heating is occurring in northwest Oklahoma, where storm risk is greatest.
GIF - Not a big fan of the heat? Hang in there. Today, tomorrow, and Thursday will continue to be oppressive, but there is an increasingly strong signal for temperatures to cool off by 5-10 (maybe even 15 in spots) degrees early next week.
- We tied a record for the warmest June 8th low temperature at OKC yesterday. At 77 degrees, we matched the record previously set in 2005.
