Settler. Uninvited Guest. Colonizer. An MLA says these terms “are not meant to divide us” but to “remind us that we live on Indigenous land.” There’s *nothing* more divisive than referring to 95% of British Columbians as uninvited guests in our own home.

To be honest, I didn't even know Vancouver Parks and Recreations had avowed me, so the disavowal hasn't been much of a blow. Next time, send me a certificate of avowal, wait until I've proudly framed it, hung it over my PC and taken a selfie with it, THEN revoke it.

It was sad but unsurprising to read in the @nationalpost today that young Canadians believe they live on stolen land. It’s a product of decades of land acknowledgements that imply to our kids that the land they live on, their schools & the places they love don’t belong to them.
