- Effective 29 May 2023, a province-wide ban on open fires is in effect because of dry conditions. Open fires are not permitted anywhere in the province. The ban applies to fires in provincial parks and private campgrounds. It also applies to backyard campfires and brush burning.
- There is a provincewide ban on setting fires for any reason within 1,000 feet of woods, including private campground, provincial parks and backyard fires. The ban is in effect until further notice.
- Wildfire Update, June 4 (morning) The Tantallon and Hammonds Plains wildfires are now under control, which means they are contained and not expected to move, but still not out. The total number of active wildfires in the province is now five. Below are details on these wildfires.
- Residents and onlookers must be aware of dangers and restrictions of operating a drone over a forest fire. They can interfere with the suppression effort and pose a danger to aircraft and first responders.
- Hammonds Plains update: The fire is about four hectares in size and is 80 per cent contained. 10 volunteer/municipal firefighters are and two helicopters on scene.
- We successfully released the black bear back into the wild after rescuing it on the Dartmouth Commons yesterday. This is always our preferred outcome. We only euthanize as last resort for public safety and/or when it's the most humane thing for the animal. Happy trails, Mr. Bear!
- Westwood Hills, Tantallon update: The wildfire, estimated to cover 788.3 hectares, is out of control. Firefighters on scene include 170 from the HRM, 32 DNRR staff, 3 helicopters and 1 waterbomber from Newfoundland and Labrador. Crew is returning from NWT to assist.

- We have a report of a new fire in the Sandy Lake West area of Hammonds Plains. Air and ground support are being rerouted to the area. This is all the information we have at this time, we will continue to provide updates as they become available.
- First responders were hard at work Wednesday evening in Sandy Point near Shelburne. Waterbombers flew overhead, ambulances helped with evacuations, and an excavator widened a driveway to allow for heavy equipment to gain access to frontlines.
- We’re pleased to report that our staff were successful in tranquilizing and removing a young black bear from a tree on the Dartmouth Commons today. They are relocating it to an appropriate location. Many thanks to @HfxRegPolice @hfxfire @RCMPNS for their help.
