    The north will only get a fraction of the £96billion 'rail revolution'. 👉Phase 1 of HS2 accounts for half of that but only goes as far as Birmingham. 👉Half the HS2 budget on the eastern leg has disappeared altogether. Our analysis for @David_Churchill in @DailyMailUK.

    Northern Powerhouse Rail needs HS2. Without it we lose the most valuable stretch of route between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport, adding a minimum of £15 billion to the total cost of NPR.

    Two weeks ago, northern mayors united to demand action on the rail investment we were promised. We need HS2 delivered in full, including the Eastern Leg. We need Northern Powerhouse Rail to connect Liverpool, Manchester, Bradford, Leeds, Newcastle, Hull and Sheffield.

    It is very disappointing to see this nonsensical and counterproductive attack on international students this morning. They are a force for good for home students, for our communities, for our economy and for international relations. Banning them would be startlingly foolihardy.
