    #OnThisDay 10 June 1904 - #JamesJoyce met the love of his life, #NoraBarnacle. The pair met in Dublin, where Nora worked in Finn’s Hotel, and they first went out together on June 16, 1904. This date was later immortalised as #Bloomsday, the day the events in #Ulysses take place.

    Seamus Heaney won the Nobel prize "for works of lyrical beauty and ethical depth, which exalt everyday miracles and the living past". See his creative process in the papers - notebooks, scraps, and even backs of envelopes - which will go on show as part of our exhibition.

    James Joyce's '#Ulysses' was first published in Paris on his birthday, #OnThisDay 100 years ago. To celebrate, #Joyce went all out and dressed up as the book and hung around outside the @NLIreland hoping someone would spot him and ask for his autograph. #Ulysses100

    This entertaining letter was sent by future #Taoiseach #SeánLemass in 1941, when he was Minister for Supplies during #WorldWarII. He is rejecting a request from a fellow TD for an increase in his #tea allowance, as tea was rationed during the #war years. ☕️
