Am off to walk to NY today. A slow stroll, I like to say, through the fast corridor. DC to Manhattan. Off to take in a founding slice of America. Talk to her. Wonder at her. Maybe make a little sense of her. Will paddle across New York Harbor before the end of April.

Not to get all boring but I listened at length to the BBC today in the car and they did multiple reports on Biden's State Department speech. On U.S. Yemen policy. On what he said about Russia. On Myanmar. And here? Wall to wall Marjorie Taylor Greene.

This is bonkers: Roughly half of all U.S. workers stand to earn more in unemployment benefits than they did at their jobs before the coronavirus pandemic brought the economy to a standstill.

So much prettier than it was early last January.

Lost in the Ukraine furor is that Rudy Giuliani last year got paid--while also working as Trump's lawyer--to intervene in Romania's anticorruption drive by attacking an upstanding prosecutor on behalf of a party whose leader is now in prison.

@Peggynoonannyc calls for Trump to resign: He should give an Oval Office address announcing he’s leaving: “America, you don’t deserve me.” Truer words have never been spoken in that old place.

Great piece by @Timodc on the national good riddance: Trump's "sociopathic malice was all-consuming, his pathological need for attention was exhausting, and what his rise said about our country, our friends, our families has been wrenching." thebulwark.com/hes-fired/

This statement directly rebuts accusations that Trump and his own lawyers have made, channeling a bogus Federalist story. Actual fake news is derailing this White House. Quite extraordinary to watch.
News: IC IG has posted a statement regarding its handling of whistleblower complaints. "The Disclosure of Urgent Concern form the Complainant submitted on August 12, 2019 is the same form the ICIG has had in place since May 24, 2018 ..." dni.gov/files/ICIG/Doc…

This just shows what Trumpism has done to the once rational, once balanced Republican brain. Because Roy Blunt is no fool. We should be alarm by this lack of decency and standards, and the ease with which a large portion of our population has fallen into sycophancy.
Sen. Roy Blunt won't yet acknowledge the reality that Joe Biden is president-elect

Again, for the 4,000 time, Trump wastes everyone's time by creating a mess that he then tries to act the hero by cleaning up.
The United States of America will NOT be cutting funding to @starsandstripes magazine under my watch. It will continue to be a wonderful source of information to our Great Military!

The power of water. So extraordinary.

I know that some Hill reporters have written some about the relative states of dementia among many members of Congress, but we need to hear more of it. Reporters need to be more straightforward in covering what is right in front of them.
.@JaneMayerNYer "they say her short-term memory has grown so poor that she often forgets she has been briefed on a topic, accusing her staff of failing to do so just after they have. They describe Feinstein as forgetting what she has said & getting upset." newyorker.com/news/news-desk…

Meet Skip. My first bona fide pedestrian I have met since leaving Washington. We talked for a while and I told him what I was doing and his face lit up and he said he wished he could do the same thing and when I said goodbye, he said “You have made my day.” His hoodie made my day

When you think of all that’s out there—stars, microscopic matter, photosynthesis, the Dalmatian coast and the geology of the Grand Canyon, the evolution of the horse, all the trout species, the physics of baseball, the magic of beer—It’s a wonder we squander our days on politics.
