Signed, sealed, delivered โ @POTUS just signed into law the largest Pell Grant increase in a decade ($400)!
Students can now receive a max Pell Grant of $6,895.
We'll keep pushing toward of goal of #DoublePell, but this is a step in the right direction.
The @CollegeBoard just pledged $5 million in #scholarships to the class of 2020! The new #OpportunityScholarships program guides students through six essential college planning steps & gives them the chance to earn $$ for completing each one. Learn more: cb.org/opportunity.
We #CelebrateFirstGen students like @AlexMol10, who came to #NCANHillDay to help advocate for policies that support students historically underrepresented in #HigherEd.
Alexander gradated earlier this year & now works on Capitol Hill.๐

๐จ #FAFSA news alert!
As of Oct. 1, 2020, only 18% of FAFSA filers will be verified.
Historically, @FAFSA has usually verified around 30% of filers, sometimes as high as 38%. Since Oct 1, 2018, that number had fallen to 22%. #FSATC2020#FixFAFSA@FSACOO
๐จ BIG NEWS: @usedgov will make temporary changes to the #FAFSA verification process to provide relief to students for the 2021-22 award year (the remainder of the current FAFSA cycle). NCAN has long advocated for such verification relief. bit.ly/36Fh9rn
.@Politico is reporting #FAFSA simplification provisions will be included in the omnibus. We applaud this bipartisan agreement & look forward to learning more. Easing access to federal student aid, a longtime NCAN priority, is a step toward a more equitable #HigherEd system.
MORE higher ed policies expected in omnibus, per aides:
โก๏ธ Simplifying FAFSA & aid formula
โก๏ธ $1.3B in forgiveness of fed loans owed by HBCUs
โก๏ธ Removing 150% limit on in-school interest subsidy on some loans
โก๏ธ Restoring Pell eligibility for students defrauded by their college
FACT: Students from the lowest socioeconomic quintile who completed a #FAFSA were 127% more likely to be enrolled in #HigherEd the fall following HS graduation in 2013 than their noncompleting peers.

We #CelebrateFirstGen students today and every day! ๐ It takes so much courage and commitment to blaze a new trail.
We also applaud the families, K-12 & college access staff, and many others who do all they can to support the educational aspirations of #firstgen students. ๐๐ฝ
