We have a volatile parameter space, or assemblage of ingredients, despite some limiting factors. Robust change of wind speed/direction with height and plentiful fuel. However, warm, humid mid levels may slow down updrafts and lead to blobbier, messier storms.

There Storm Prediction Center has included Chicago and the Quad Cities in the core of their wind risk this afternoon. Widespread gusts of 60-70 mph are likely as a squall line works through. There may be some embedded kinks of spin with brief tornadoes in the squall.
