In Dec 2023, I randomly decided to do a road trip across West Africa solo. I started in Lagos then passed through Benin. Continued to Togo, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry then took the ferry to Freetown Sierra leone then back to Lagos

on my flight, I was sat beside two kids. The hostess came up to me and asked if i could do her a favour. She said, the kids (8 & 12) were traveling alone and if I could please watch them especially when we touch down. The plan was to hand them over to ground staff.

Dear women if any man is threatening you with legal action because you called him out for sexual assault, please reach out to me. I have a team of AWESOME (and badly behaved) female attorneys ready to defend you for free. Nonsense!

Met someone a few days ago at the dentist. He asked me where I was from and we start chatting. He has been traveling full time for 15 years. He said he has a Youtube channel so I ask for the deets & he goes “it’s just silly little videos but my grand children love watching them”

Okay but seriously … what is currently going on in the UK is so distressing. My uber driver who is originally from Palestine but raised in Lebanon said to me that he is working hard with no day offs to save enough to move his family out of the UK. I asked him where he would go

Airport pickups are such a show of love. Doesn’t matter if it is romantic or platonic. Anyone who picks you up from the airport that you aren’t paying to do so, actually loves you.

As an African woman traveling solo, i’m never alone “my husband comes in tomorrow” “yes, my friends are in a hotel at the city center” “i’m here for a wedding. Meeting the crew in a bit” “on my way to meet my brother who is an olympic boxer” “just taking time alone”

Today I also learned that coconut trees grow by the ocean because they are the only trees that are able to convert salty water to fresh water. The person who taught me this is 6 years old.

My phone was dead but I asked about the name of his channel & once I got to my hotel, I checked it out. This man has 2k + short cute travel videos he has been consistently posting for over 10 years! Doesn’t matter to him that his main audience are his grandkids. So adorable.

I ended up really enjoying my time with them. Their curiosity was so refreshing. But for parents that do this everyday, damn. What happens when you don’t know the answer to the questions? Just a simple good vibes interaction I thought to share. Wishing A & S all the best.

he said “home”. Then he proceeded to say what is probably the saddest things anyone has said to me: “ma’am, the question is would i rather die from a bomb blast at home or being stabbed in the street here? I know my answer in my heart” Tf?
