I interviewed for LLM/ML research scientist/engineering positions last Fall. Over 200 applications, 100 interviews, many rejections & some offers later, I decided to write the process down, along with the resources I used.

- I was impacted by Meta layoffs today. As a Research Scientist working on LLM posttraining (reward models, DPO/GRPO) & automated evaluation pipelines, I’ve focused on understanding why/wehere models fail & how to make them better. I’m looking for opportunities; please reach out!
- One more reorg and everything will be fixed. Just one more.
- Absolutely insane and laughable thing to do btw.Several of my team members + myself are impacted by this layoff today. Welcome to connect :)
- Replying to @MimansaJNotes: * I'm on H1B visa & need visa sponsorship (and possibly an I-140 application) * I'm still visible internally at Meta because I have 2 months to find a new team (reorg → role elimination → soft cut pipeline ig) * I'd like to stay in the Greater Seattle area if possible.

- I love how code switching, accent, dialect, low resource language, speech disabilities, domain specific terms never stops someone from considering speech recognition 'solved'.With this update and Whisper 3 coming out soon, I would say that the problem of speech recognition has been solved. x.com/superwhisperap…
- Replying to @MimansaJAdditional note: I will not be speaking to reporters about the reorg/soft layoff concoction situation. Please do not reach out to me for comments on this topic.
- Replying to @MimansaJAdditional note 2: While I acknowledge your legal right to do so, I respectfully request and would greatly appreciate that I not be quoted (including any of my tweets) in any journalistic coverage of this topic, please 🥺.
- Replying to @_vztuThat is the prompt provided to the reviewers. And so I'm not saying that they didn't copy paste the same prompt into an LLM, but they might have just copy pasted it for another reason and pasted it back into the review. This is the exact question that it shows to the reviewers.
- After not being on Twitter for 3 years due to tragic personal circumstances, I’m back on Twitter & LinkedIn! Let’s chat if you have an opening in evaluation/benchmarking/DSL for LLMs, on job market or just want to talk! LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/mimansajais… mimansajaiswal.github.io
