- The charming, beautiful, funny and utterly original Gita Mehta passed away last evening. She wrote many successful books like "Karma Cola', 'Raj' and my personal favourite, 'A River Sutra'. She was married to the iconic publisher Sonny Mehta. May she rest in love and light.
- Premchand was often called the greatest Hindi writer of the 20th century. He wrote close to 300 short stories. We published his short fiction in this gorgeous collection a few years ago. He was born on this day in 1880 in Lamhi, a village near Benares.
- Avinuo Kire is a writer and teacher from Nagaland. She teaches English at Kohima College. Her 'hypnotic' new novel 'Where the Cobbled Path Leads' is folk fantasy, interweaving fantasy fiction with Naga spirit stories and folklore. It'll be out on 18 July.
