    Today my cousin Christopher would have turned 35, except Christopher died 3 days ago. There is an indescribable feeling of failure, being so entrenched in the mental health field but being unable to help those you love. I'm not sure why I'm sharing, except maybe to put a face

    Me: I basically need to write an entire grant this weekend [Very supportive, lovely] husband: Meredith Grey wrote an entire grant the night before it was due. And it was funded the next episode.

    Trying to submit a paper where our hypothesis was wrong (shocking, I know🙀) A reviewer is insisting that we change our hypothesis to what *actually* happened, instead of what we *hypothesized* would happen. Do ppl do this? (yes, pre-reg would avoid this but hindsight is 20/20)

    I am so excited to finally share that I'll be joining @UCalgary @HotchkissBrain this fall to build a research program focused on mechanism-based therapeutic effects of psychedelics (+ continue our ongoing cannabinoid work) in stress-related disorders

    Incredibly grateful to receive our very first CIHR grant to support a psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy clinical trial for alcohol use disorder (+ behavioral & neuroimaging outcomes) So excited to finally get this project off the ground! Also, have I mentioned we're hiring? 😉

    Exactly 5 years ago I defended my PhD & 1 week from today I start as an assistant professor at @CSAN_LiU. As a #firstgen raised on a #NativeAmerican reservation, there were times when it felt like getting to this point was nearly impossible. Im so incredibly grateful to so many..

    But I hope hearing about Christopher, and how much he was loved and how dearly he will be missed, will be a reminder of the real goal of so much of our work. There are so many people with full, vibrant lives who desperately need better mental health treatment options, now.

    IT'S HAPPENING! Today we received Health Canada approval for our CIHR-funded clinical trial to use psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for AUD So grateful to our team that has spent the past several months getting us here. A few small things to get in place & we're ready to go!

    to those stories you hear about lives devastated by SUDs, PTSD, & other mental health burdens. Christopher & I were less than 4 months apart in age, and lived next door to each other growing up. Many of my core childhood memories include him. I never imagined a life without him.

    I saw the challenges he faced, & he became the reason I researched the things I do. He, like so many others, deserved better treatment options than what we could offer. I know its easy to get caught up in the daily goings on of our work, & our need for papers, grants, & whatnot

    I have been a new PI for approximately 30 seconds and I already can't handle all the emails. I really hate having unread emails in my inbox (lol), but I can't keep up. Will I learn to adapt or is this life from now on? I think I need a new strategy @NewPI_Slack #AcademicChatter
