Pretty amazing thread where doctors complain about the prices for construction, where workers make about a quarter of what doctors do, because they can’t understand the difference between wholesale and retail prices

Of course the police corralled them into the bus lane
Don’t ever tell us there’s no movement for congestion pricing

A higher proportion of the population in Europe is employed in construction and agriculture than in America
This is the second pro truck tweet I've seen in a month that argues that Americans regularly haul raw steel

This is a Toronto suburb, American sprawl is not this dense
Americans will literally work their asses off for 30 years straight just to move into something like this

Roofers have one of the highest fatality rates in America, and their median pay is $50,300. Not low enough for this doctor (median pay: $239,200), who thinks roofers just teleport from roof to roof for 8 hours a day

I just had a roofer charge me $600 to replace a few shingles. He was on my property for 20 minutes total. I was furious- $1800/hour!

A crazy thing about Australia that they don’t want you to know is that this is how they sell houses. Like this is the normal way you sell a normal house.

Airbnb is crazier IMO. Taxis were pretty reviled, and the lack of street hails was a side step around but within the law at least in some places. But separating commercial and residential uses is the raison d’être of zoning, and Airbnb is straightforwardly a hotel use
It's still incredible to me that Uber set up what were obviously illegal taxi operations, called it something else and eventually got virtually every city in North America to roll over, say "okay!" and either tear down taxi regulations or set up two parallel regulatory regimes.

As police commissioner, Frank Rizzo stopped hiring black cops. As mayor, he opposed public school desegregation. He told Philadelphias to "vote white" in his campaign for a third term. About anti-police protests, he once said, "I'll make Attila the Hun look like a faggot"
The statue of Frank Rizzo is guarded by mounted Pennsylvania state troopers and Philadelphia police officers

NYC Twitter is absolutely losing it over the fact that Andrew Yang did not specify that his journey to the Bronx will involve transferring to another train at 125th St.

INCREDIBLE encapsulation of the Nonprofit Industrial/Consultant Complex approach to planning. Ex-Nelson\Nygaard employee visits Amsterdam and London and seems to conclude that America does transpo planning better because we prioritize equity and they don't mass.streetsblog.org/2022/08/10/gue…

Spanish immigration policy is kinda fascinating. If you’re from a former colony, you get on a plane, pretend like you’re a tourist to the person in the passport booth, then you get a shitty job and stay illegally for two years and bam, legal residency and eventually citizenship
During 2023, the population of Spain increased by 508,000 people, or by 1.06%. The strong growth was mostly driven by immigration from Latin America.
