I wanted to move a motion in Parliament today to congratulate Police on the extraordinary work they have done in their effective takedown of the Comancheros in Christchurch, arresting every member. Labour opposed my doing that, so I couldn’t even move the motion.

I back our Police to enforce the new gang legislation and they have been very effective. Kids shouldn’t be wearing clothes with gang insignia in public. A boxing club associated with and hosted by the Black Power, an organised crime group, should think long and hard about that.

Outstanding work by our Police. Gangs in this country are no longer above the law.

The Police have been asked to do a difficult job on parliament’s forecourt today. They are displaying professionalism and teamwork in the face of verbal and physical abuse. This is what a world class Police service looks like.

Just before 11 this morning, Police in Wairoa apprehended a gang member for wearing a patch to the supermarket. At around the same time, a patched Mongrel Mob member was observed by Police standing in the street in Papakura. Both were arrested, and will face enforcement action.

Chris Hipkins blames media for not reporting on ram raids. Media had 714 ram raids to report on under Labour in 2022. To end of May 2025, there were 45. Dragging his bottom lip and complaining about media is hilarious. He simply had a very poor record as Police Minister.

Total nonsense from the Greens. This is an insult to the thousands of Kiwis who were victimised by those in prison and all of the people working in our justice system to keep us safe. Prisoners are in prison because they have broken the law.

Prime Minister Chris Hipkins showed in Parliament today that he lives in a fantasy land when he claimed incorrectly that ram-raids had reduced by 75% under his watch. They are up by 500% since 2018. He seems to live on Planet Hipkins, where facts don’t matter.

I was just having a chat with Karen Chhour. She was telling me Willie Jackson had also approached her and apologised, which she accepted and thanked him for. In my view she has shown us how someone with grace, class and mana behaves.

Hipkins has just dumped Labour’s core justice policy, which they have kept for 6 years while shopkeepers, communities and first responders have been swamped with a tsunami of violent crime. 13 days from voting and Labour suddenly wake up to the damage they have done. No words.

I’m travelling to Nelson following the tragic incident this morning. This is devastating and heartbreaking for family, friends, the Police family and for the country to wake up to news like this.

Tonight as I was leaving Copperfields I stopped to talk to Greg O’Connor about Parly Rugby. Poto Williams was at the other end of the table. Greg told me I couldn’t sit at the same table. He then told me the reason was they don’t like me holding the Minister to account. Intense.

Ginny Andersen deliberately misled this morning when she said that 322 Police have now left for Australia. As at 1 July, there were 335 vetting requests from Australia since January last year, but only ~86 Police have actually gone and attrition remains within expected levels.

My thoughts are with the family of the Police officer who was run down in New Lynn last night and the two Police officers shot today. Policing under the leadership of Minister Poto Williams and Police Commissioner Andy Coster is becoming more and more dangerous. Step up and lead.
