Startling "mask off" moment by the editors of history and technology. It seems to read as if what constitutes acceptable historical method is dictated by politics. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

It is crazy how many TV shows and Movies retread the same historical ground. How many more times do we need to see Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn? There are so many other interesting historical stories? (IMBD has 48 items tagged with Henry! (imdb.com/search/keyword…) )

Totally agree. Though historians should also study more economics.

Pomeranz's book is great. It reframed the debate (introducing the term "the grea divergence" and sparked 20 years of data collection and discussion. But its main claims don't really hold-up (in their strong form at least).
Finally got around to reading Kenneth Pomeranz's The Great Divergence, a monumental classic in economic history. An extraordinary argument, plethora of detail, & compelling approach to history. Would love people to flag critiques & alternative histories. goodreads.com/review/show/67…
