- South Side MKE poll site: unusually high turnout, long lines of new voters registering with Puerto Rican flag 🇵🇷 pins on lapels. This from a poll worker on a smoke break.
- Early reports state that Daunte Wright, MN motorist killed by police, was pulled over for his dangling air freshener. I've been covering this odd genre of traffic stop, which has exploded in prevalence & is derided as a pretext stop, for years: chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-20…
- Another incredible tale of Herb Kohl: he ignited in Ray Allen a deep and genuine devotion to Holocaust education and remembrance. One of the best undertold sports stories, IMO.
- My ode to Herb Kohl, the man, the mensch, the legend. It’s hard to imagine a life of greater impact. RIP, Mr. Milwaukee.
- Madison: 100s of National Guard troops in riot gear (shields, rifles, leg armor) just filed out of nine buses a block from State Capitol. Every Capitol road entrance is blocked by humvees. No parking on Cap Square today.
- Two dozen voters, all African American, lined up before North Side poll opened at 7 a.m. on 1st day of in-person early voting in MKE. Why? "To get rid of Trump. I'll put it to you real quick," shouted a man in beige work coat. Others in line applauded.
- Driving around MKE’s North Shore suburbs, I see lots of cars pulled over. Any guesses what one single trait I can assume about the driver of those pulled over, regardless of the car’s make or condition? DWB is a 100% real thing in 2022. All burbs are bad. WFB seems the worst.
- Pulling chaperone duty for elementary field trip. As we passed Fiserv, the kids spontaneously started chanting. "Let's go @Bucks " "Bucks in Six!" That team OWNS this city.
