I’ve been noting this for 3+ years. Signed, A board certified brain injury doctor
“A new study has found that these symptoms may be the result of a viral-borne brain injury that may cause cognitive.. health issues that persist for years.” “The brain deficits found in #LongCovid patients were equivalent to 20 years of brain aging” medscape.com/viewarticle/ne…
Screenshot of a Medscape medical news article with the headline “new evidence suggest long Covid could be a brain injury”

It may seem shocking to hear stats like 7.5% of US population have #LongCovid, but I bring it up in conversation & will hear… “yeah, I get dizzy randomly while I’m up now” or “My vision has never been the same since” or “I can’t exercise like I did before.” #ThatsLongCovid

Brain Injury Doctor here… Covid loves damaging the brain. We will continue to see the effects for years to come. Protect your brain.
Bloomberg: “What We Know About Covid’s Impact on Your Brain” ‘Scientists worry that persistent cognitive issues caused by Covid signal that a surge in dementia cases and other mental conditions is on the horizon’ bloomberg.com/explainers/doe…

In a recent clinic day, about 8 patients with #LongCovid applied for disability. Guess how many got it?

When people have had #COVID & then a few months later say, “I’m having some trouble finding my words” or “I’m spent” #ThatsLongCovid There can be a delay in presentation. Inflammatory cytokines were found (even in CSF) months after mild covid. Autoimmunity takes time, too.

Can people in society who are sick (even if you think it’s not covid) have the courtesy to at least wear a mask in public? Signed, - someone who doesn’t want any virus - wife of someone who has covid - someone who is ready for a lot of mean responses to this hot take.

No one Absolutely no one… Me on college tours: What type of air filtration systems are in place, and do you use HEPA filters or other high-efficiency filters to capture airborne viruses like COVID-19?

One (nonvalidated) screening question I will ask people with #LongCovid is “How many times do you shower/take a bath a week?” It’s very telling on energy levels.

Was in a meeting where I was asked, “Can I call you Monica?” Which was fine. But then he kept on calling the other physician in the meeting (a man) “Doctor.” I politely call him out & explained gender bias. Language is powerful. Let’s change the landscape.

COVID doesn’t just hit your lungs... it hits your arteries causing inflammation, plaque, and premature vascular aging. Even mild cases. Even young women. This is not over. Must-read from @EricTopol
We just learned about a 3rd dimension of how Covid can affect our arteries. erictopol.substack.com/p/covid-and-ou…
